Shri Ram Dass Sahni talks about their lives in Gilalipur Dodey (Chak 72 JB), Layallpur. Surrounding villages were predominant Sikh villages. During August 1947 the Gurkha army led by Sikh officers helped the people move to Bhikiwind and then to Amritsar. Mr Sahni reminisces about the comfortable life in the village and the day when his elders handed over the keys of the house to the servants. The ancestral home had 12 rooms. In the center of the verandah was a well and the house had a big gate. Around midnight they left the village. He talks about the how the Sikhs and Hindus of nearby villages all congregated in their village. There were several days where langars were orgniazed by the local Gurdwara. He still remembers the culture and attitude about the people of that era. When their family reached Amritsar people helped them and showed respect.
He also mentions that in Sargodha and Multan there were numerous massacres.
