On August 11th, around 3 PM, a mob surrounded a Muslim village of Sidhar Rajputan in the Amritsar District. According to the eye witness account, the zamindars were out tending the fields when the attack started from all four sides. Slowly the mob tightened its grip of the village and converged into the homes of the people. Zamindars and those working in the fields were first to be killed. And then those who were taking shelter inside the homes were killed by cutting a hole though the roof and pouring kerosene inside the homes and lighting them on fire. Only few survived, mostly children of ages 5 and under. The survivors were taken to the nearby hospital in Amritsar. Doctors who were not able to take care of the critically injured patients were given "Ram pudis", a concoction of poison.
The eye witness in this interview also talks about how Hindus always treated them differently. They will not share food or eat together with the Muslim community. In one interesting note, the person talks about seven soldiers from the Indian Army, 4 Muslims and 3 Sikhs, who tried to save the village from the mob which was primarily aided by the soldiers from the Kapurthala riyasat.
